課程名稱：歐洲中心主義的批判重探 Marks for a critical approach to Eurocentrism
Description: The course will touch upon some issues, including “discovery” or conquest, slavery, promoters and detractors, race, pride and prejudice (Black Power), the forgotten Revolution (Haiti), sailors, discoverers, explorers, travelers and anthropologists, otherness as madness, decolonization of knowledge...etc.
Students will be guided to read works by Diderot, Sade, C.L.R. James, W.E.B. Du Bois, Boaventura de Sousa Santos, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Pierre Clastres, Louis Sala-Molins, Henri Michaux, Roland Barthes, Jean Genet, Malcolm X, Aimé Césaire, Achille Mbembe...etc.

課程名稱：帝國文化史 The Intellectual History of the Empire - Intellectual Mobilization in Imperial Nnationalism -
Instructor: Naoki Sakai
Description: What kinds of rhetoric, philosophies, or legitimacies are associated with empires? What imperial roles are assumed by intellectuals and with what effect? What is the relationship between modern imperialism and nationalism? By juxtaposing comparatively what are often thought to be radically different cases of imperial dominance – the Japanese and the American -- this graduate seminar will attempt to generate new questions and insights regarding the intellectual mobilization that accompanies empire in these, and other, places and times.
